Desktop apps for serious work.

We build software for Windows, macOS and Linux for people who work in it all day: in the warehouse, the lab, on the production line or in the office. It works offline, updates itself and connects to your equipment.

Example: a desktop app for a warehouse. The internet connection drops, but work goes on: three deliveries are received and saved on the computer. When the connection returns, the three changes sync with the server. The barcode scanner and label printer are connected, and a new version of the app installs itself.

When a desktop app is the right call

A desktop application is installed on the computer and uses its full power: it's fast with large amounts of data, keeps working without the internet, and talks directly to printers, scanners, scales and other devices.

Choose a desktop application when people use the software all day as their main tool, when it handles a lot of data or complex workflows, when it must keep working without a reliable connection, or when it controls equipment. It also fits regulated environments where data has to stay on site. If your users only drop in now and then, a web application is usually the better choice.

What we build

Software for workplaces where stopping costs money.

  1. 01

    Software for warehouses and production

Receiving, labelling and dispatch with barcode scanners and label printers that keep working even when the Wi-Fi in the warehouse drops.

  2. 02

    Software for machines and instruments

Control and readings from machines, scales, controllers and lab instruments over USB, serial ports and industrial protocols.

  3. 03

    Professional tools for the office

Applications for complex daily work with lots of data, such as planning, reports and documents, that stay fast with thousands of records.

  4. 04

New life for old desktop software

A Delphi, Visual Basic or Access program that works but now holds you back: we move it to modern technology without stopping your work.

How a desktop project runs

Software for a full working day is designed on site, with the people who will use it.

  1. 01

    The workplace

We watch how and where it will be used: which screen, which equipment, what connection, what habits.

  2. 02

    Prototype

A clickable prototype of the key screens, tested with the people who will work with it.

  3. 03

    Build in stages

A working version every week or two, which you install and try on your own computers.

  4. 04

    Signing and installers

Code signing and installers for every operating system, so there are no warnings on installation.

  5. 05

    Updates and support

An automatic-update channel tested before the first release, and support after launch.

What you get

  • An app for Windows, macOS or Linux
  • Offline work with safe syncing
  • Connections to printers, scanners and other equipment
  • Code signing and installers
  • Automatic updates
  • Documentation and support

The technology we build with

We choose the technology by the systems the app will run on and the equipment around it.

Applications
  • .NET
  • C#
  • Electron
  • Tauri
  • C++

.NET is the natural choice for Windows. Electron and Tauri bring one interface to all three systems, and C++ is kept for the most demanding work.

Data and sync
  • SQLite
  • PostgreSQL

SQLite keeps the data on the computer itself, and it syncs with the server whenever there is a connection.

Equipment
  • USB
  • RS-232
  • RS-485
  • Modbus

The connections the software uses to talk to scales, printers, readers and controllers.

Installation
  • MSIX
  • DMG
  • AppImage

Signed installers for Windows, macOS and Linux that the operating system trusts.

Questions about desktop apps

Desktop or web app: which should we choose?

Desktop when people use the software all day, when it has to keep going without the internet, or when it controls equipment. Web when users are many and come from different places and devices. Often the answer is both: a desktop app at the workstations and a web dashboard for management.

How much does a desktop application cost?

It depends on the number of screens, on offline work and on the equipment it connects to. A small tool is a project of a few weeks, a complete system a few months and up, in stages. After the free first conversation, you get an estimate as a range.

Will it run on Windows, macOS and Linux?

Yes, if needed. We build an app for all three from shared code, and when it will only ever run on Windows, we sometimes choose technology made for Windows, for speed and a native feel.

How does the app get updated on every computer?

Automatically. The app checks for a new version, downloads it and installs it quietly, and the signature guarantees it comes from you. We roll an update out to a few computers first, and your IT team can control when it happens if needed.

Can it work without the internet?

Yes. Data is kept on the computer and syncs with the server as soon as the connection returns. We decide in advance what happens when two people change the same record, so nothing is lost and nothing is saved twice.

Can you connect the app to our equipment?

Yes. We connect to printers, scanners, scales, controllers and measuring instruments over USB, serial ports and the network. If the equipment is still to be made, our hardware partner CulTech designs it.
