Domoreto: a platform for a cleaner coast.
The platform behind the Sea Friends Marine Club’s project against plastic on Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast, funded by the “You and Lidl for a Better Life” programme. People report polluted places with photos, the club reviews and publishes them, and activities and results live in one place.

“You and Lidl for a Better Life” is Lidl Bulgaria’s largest corporate social responsibility initiative. It is run in partnership with the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation and the Bulgarian Donors’ Forum.
The programme funded the “Finally, I reach the sea” project, and this platform is one of the project’s activities: a place where anyone can report a polluted spot on the coast and see what happens to it.
The challenge
The project works with children and young people from Varna to Shabla: workshops, beach clean-ups, diving and a “photo hunt” for polluted spots. The platform had to bring all of that together and let anyone report a polluted place from their phone, right on the beach.
The platform had to be easy for the club’s team as well: reviewing and approving reports, and adding the result to reports and events once a place has been cleaned.
What we did
01Research
We organised the site around the two things people come to do: see what is happening and report a problem. The “Report” button is on every page.
02Design
A marine identity in deep navy, teal and sand, in light and dark versions. The “You and Lidl for a Better Life” programme is visible on the first screen, and every partner is listed at the bottom of every page.
03Build
A report takes four clear steps that work well on a phone: what you saw, where it is, photos and your contact details. The club’s team reviews every report, publishes it without the sender’s personal details and adds the result once the place has been cleaned.
04Cloud
The platform runs in the Microsoft Azure cloud: it is available around the clock, photos and reports are stored safely, and every improvement goes live automatically.
The product
A public site for visitors and an admin for the club’s team: from a photo on the beach to a published report with a result.
The site doesn't allow embedding, so these are screenshots of the live site.
